Owning a home is a constant fight against nature. Why is that? Well, a lot of the things that you want to keep out of your home are constantly trying to get in. Take water, for example. It has an amazing ability to travel through cracks and pores, and it can even be airborne. Part of the protection that your home has against water intrusion is a vapor barrier. These are often made of polyethylene plastic, but they also can be applied as a paint.

Using paint as a vapor barrier is very convenient, especially if it is a surface that you were planning on painting anyway, but it is very important that you cover the area completely. If the paint is scratched for some reason, it needs to be reapplied.

The same is true when using plastic sheets. If they aren’t installed properly, or handled carefully, you could easily rip them and create an opening where water could get in.
